---- Chapter 125 I softened my tone on purpose. Inever liked playing the victim, but if it could finally get Jonathan to agree to a divorce, I was willing to give it a shot. He stood with his back to me the entire time, never once turning around. It wasn't until the silence swallowed my last word that he finally said, in a low voice, "I'm not getting a divorce." And with that, he walked out of the room, leaving me alone.
Istared at the closed door, feeling a wave of frustration I couldn't suppress. I grabbed the pillow in my hand and hurled it at the door. The next few days felt like a return to the old routine. Jonathan no longer allowed me to go out. His attitude wasn't as cold or overbearing as before. He agreed to almost everything I asked, except for leaving the house. In that regard, he remained inflexible , and that made me resent him even more. "Jonathan, I'm begging you," I pleaded.
"Please, just let me go. Can't we just get divorced? I don't want your guilt, and I don't need your compensation!" ---- At first , I tried to speak to him calmly, but Jonathan would just stare at me with those same deep, icy eyes, saying nothing at all. Only after a long silence would he let out a sigh and say softly, "T'm not divorcing you." Over time, frustration and anger got the best of me. I started yelling at him. "Why won't you divorce me, Jonathan? What do you want from me?
Are you trying to drive me to my death on purpose? Is that what it takes for you to be with Alicia and have everyone's blessing?" I threw every cruel thing I could think of at him, but he never took the bait. He tolerated it all. No matter how cruel or awful my words were, he remained unmoved. Sometimes , when I closed my eyes and refused to speak, he would gently brush my hair away from my face and press a soft kiss on my forehead.

"You'll see soon enough," he whispered once, "T've never had any romantic feelings for her." Iclosed my eyes, pretending I didn't hear him. He could say it a hundred times, but it would never mean more to me than his actions. Maybe he truly believed he didn't have feelings for Alicia and ---- that they were just like family, but I saw the truth clearly. If he didn't have feelings for her, then why did he always treat her like she was special? Everyone knew that I barely mattered to him.
Alicia Zimmer, the cherished daughter of the Zimmer family and his childhood friend, was the one he truly cared about. People didn't just make that kind of thing up, so I wasn't going to be swayed by a few empty promises. 'A few more days passed, and then one morning, Jonathan finally said I could go out. Ishould have known there was a catch. He wanted me to go with him to Alicia's birthday party. "T'm not going," I said flatly.
I walked straight to the bed, sat down, and leaned back against the headboard, turning my back to him. I didn't even. want to see his face. "If you don't want me to cause a scene at her party, then don't bring me." Theard Jonathan's heavy footsteps slowly approach from behind. After a while, he gently said, "You've always complained that I never take you to public events, haven't you?" I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"We've been married for five years, and it never occurred to you to show me off. Now that ---- we're getting a divorce, what's the point? Just get it over with. I scoffed. "No one in your social circle even knows I'm your wife. Once we split, it won't change my reputation at all. We don't have kids. I'm not after your money. A clean break would be better for both of us." "What do you mean by 'better for both of us'?" Jonathan asked, his voice carrying a hint of a threat.
